MERIL is dedicated to the removal of barriers, be they physical or attitudinal, which prevent people with disabilities and people who are aging from fully taking part in all of the activities in their community that they choose.
To strive toward “A Barrier-Free Northwest Missouri,” these services are available:
- training in the concept of Universal Design*
- coordination of home modifications
- accessibility surveys and follow-up for individuals, governmental offices, polling locations and businesses
- educating the community on barrier removal and its importance
- volunteer opportunities for people with disabilities to further barrier removal efforts
- collaboration and community partnerships working toward accessibility
- assistance with seeking durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes and ramps
- making donated items available to people in need
